Introduction to the analysis of the DC Super Hero Girls: Teen Power

The best-known superheroines and supervillains from the DC publishing house come to your console with an open-world beat'em up style game, or "me against the neighborhood" with an adaptation of the well-known television series of the same name. DC Super Hero Girls is an animated series on the Cartoon Network channel starring DC's teenage heroines facing off against teenage villains. It is set in the institute and we will have the possibility to handle all the heroines and even some villains.

History of the DC Super Hero Girls: Teen Power

Lex Luthor's company Lexcorp has some runaway robots in Metropolis, where the protagonists live, and our favorite heroines have to put an end to this threat while trying to have a normal life as teenagers. Because yes, the teenagers will carry more weight in the story than the heroines, which offers a different point of view. But I am not going to go into details, on the one hand because it is not a great weighty plot, and on the other hand it is more funny that the player discovers it.

The protagonists are Barbara Gordon (Batgirl) , Kara Danvers (Supergirl) and Diana Prince (Wonder Woman) , and as secondary we have Zee Zatara (Zatanna) , Jessica Cruz (Green Lantern) and Karen Beecher (Bumblebee) .

On the side of the antagonists we can find, of course, Harleen Quinzel (Harley Quinn) , Carol Ferris (Star Sapphire) and Selina Kyle (Catwoman) . Supporting her will be Pamela Isley (Poison Ivy ), Doris Zeul (Giganta) and Leslie Wellis (Livewire) .

Very cartoon art style

The line drawing of the animated series is in the style of The Powerpuff Girls or My Little Pony. Well, this aesthetic remains exactly the same in the game, in fact it seems that you are playing an episode of the series in which you can control the protagonists, but in 3D modeling. All very kawaii, and sure to catch the attention of the little ones in the house.

The scenarios are very simple and with hardly any textures, but this is not a sign that it has little work, but rather that it is very similar to the animated series, that is why they have to capture the same visual style in buildings and characters. Even so, there are many details and the cellshading used is exquisite.

open metropolis

We are facing an open world game set in Metropolis. We will be able to walk its streets with relative freedom, although some sections may be limited. It seems original to me how they delimit the zones, instead of using invisible walls or barricades what they do is put police officers with their cars and if you try to pass from there they talk to you and tell you that the zone is delimited, and your character becomes backwards.

Throughout the city we will be able to choose between the main mission, secondary missions or collectibles, and it will almost always be talking to a character or NPC. It is quite intuitive and the movement of the character is handled in a completely comfortable and simple way. It is suitable for all ages.

The missions will also have optional objectives that will allow us to obtain a higher score if we reach them. But they are optional, so we are not required to do them all.

Shall we go shopping?

One of the secondary or additional options that this game offers us is to go shopping and choose between various clothing models. We can choose hood, top, bottom and shoes. It may be a cliché that teenage girls go shopping, but it's kind of funny that, in fact, my 7-year-old daughter likes it one of the options that she likes most about the games, that I let her choose the style and clothing of the characters.

The clothing and abilities of the characters will be unlocked by collecting coins and stars from the map, so the more we explore the city, the more objects we can get.

superhero fight

The fight is a classic 3D beat'em up, in which we have to fight different enemies. We will move the right stick to control the camera and place it where we are most comfortable. You can lock the camera on enemies, but I didn't find it as useful as in other fighting games, for me it was better not to lock it.

There are phases in which we must follow a combination of buttons, we go through some quick time events, and they bring freshness to the title so that it is not always the same and thus we have more variety in the gameplay.

As I say, the fight is very entertaining and fun, even satisfying when the number of enemies is greater and you manage to defeat them all. At first it may seem like a game for children, but adults will also find a challenge and a lot of entertainment in these phases.

The heroines and villains will use their powers and have special attacks, a delight for fans of the comic characters. You will be able to organize your team of three in which you will control one character and the others will fight by your side.

Social networks even in games

We live in the information age and social networks are part of our daily lives. In a game starring teenagers, social networks could not be missing, and the one we have in the game, instead of Insta, is called Supersta. Thus, looking at the screen of our mobile we can share photos that other characters will comment on. Sometimes it will appear that the reactions are from real humans. It's very funny.

Conclusion of the analysis of DC Super Hero Girls: Teen Power

DC Super Hero Girls: Teen Power is a game for the whole family, with all that that entails. It's not just a game for children because both the youngest members of the household and the adults will have a good time with this title, especially the biggest fans of the characters. Taking into account that it is not a brainy game or that it requires a lot of skill, we receive what it offers us, entertainment, fun and disconnection from the real world and obligations. Are you looking for that or share some time with the family? So it's your title.
